At least five suspected thieves were lynched to death by
an irate mob in Nairobi in separate incidents this week.
Four of the suspects were killed on Monday morning in
Kangemi, Tassia and Kibera while Kevin Mungai, 23,
was killed by a mob after he was found stealing from a
neighbour’s house at Katina, Kangemi. His body is at
City Mortuary. The incident happened on Monday at
around 10 am in Kenya
According to Nairaobi news, on the same day, another
man was killed by a mob after for attempted robbery.
The deceased was in the company of two others when
they attempted to rob Edwin Bulemi of his phone and
cash. Mr Bulemi raised alarm and members of the
public responded, cornered one of the suspects and
lynched him before recovering a knife from him.
Elsewhere in Kibera at around 10:45 am on the same
day, a man was killed after allegedly breaking into a
house in Kisumu Ndogo.
Kennedy Otieno said two men broke into his house and
stole a TV and a DVD worth Sh15,000. He raised
alarm and neighbours responded and subjected one of the
suspects to mob injustice. He was rushed to Kenyatta
National Hospital where he was pronounced dead on
arrival.
The rate at which residents take laws into their hands
have become worrisome as the police have advised people
to hand over thieves instead of killing them.
It is however disturbing that even at the rate of
lynching and killing of thieves, people have refused to
stop stealing.
